We donate $1 of every order of our balinese products to Bali ReGreen’s bamboo reforestation project and by doing this we’re all supporting a long tail ecological and economical value chain to Balinese communities. How does this happen?
Bali ReGreen’s bamboo reforestation effort was designed to achieve 3 goals:
1. Protect drought stricken regions from landslides and raise the ground water levels.
2. Provide enough bamboo material for cultural and religious reasons.
3. Turn un-farmable land into profitable extra income for local farmers.
To be VERY specific, this $1 is the cost to nurse, plant and nurture 1 bamboo shoot until its mature enough for the locals to take care of it. This small contribution goes a REALLY long way.
This is not only creating new income revenue streams for farmers while protecting their land, water and culture but also ensures that our bamboo supplier will always have high quality sources. Bamboo is nothing short of a renewable miracle. It is a powerful carbon draw because of how fast it grows. It's one of the fastest growing plants on earth, some species as much as a meter a day. This makes bamboo a superior sustainable alternative to hardwoods, metals or even glass. It is also a food source and has this incredible ability to retain and rebuild groundwater columns.
In Bali, Bamboo is considered sacred because its used in almost every aspect of life fulfilling cultural, practical and spiritual aspects of daily life. No wonder local bamboo hand craftsmanship in Bali is so advanced.. It’s truly an endless gift that keeps on giving.
We wanted to give you an up close and personal moment with the founder him self to learn about this 9 year old project that is truly leaving legacy for the island. I encourage other eco-brands to support this project. Someday I would love to say My Plastic Free Store helped to plant 20,000 bamboo shoots in Bali. We have a long way to go and I'm looking forward to it.
